Ola familla!
I sent Jason off this morning with Jim, Les, Dario, Hilga and Victor. They were
bound for Tarapoto where they will meet a pilot named Jack. Then they will
begin a 2 leg journey that will take them to the low jungle. We are in the high
jungle here in Moyobamba. It is quite hot here (unseasonably) and will be at
least 10 degrees hotter in Puerto Maldonado. After being in the jungle, in a
village that is now 9 years old, I can barely imagine how difficult it will be
in an area starting a new village. Pastor Dario has such a heart for the
Aguaruna people that he will undertake this start up venture. Many Aguaruna
have the scripture, but he believes these Aguaruna in the low jungle do not. He
is a Godly man and his wisdom is trusted.
Please pray for their safety. They fly in a six passanger plane over vast areas
of jungle. We will meet up with them Sunday in Lima for the return home.
Last night the team met for the last time together. We had a time of sharing
that lasted two hours, and could have gone on all night but for the need of the
men to pack for a predawn departure. What amazing ways God has touched each
life! Tears flowed from men said to NEVER cry! More and more as we visit, I
discover how God has answered large and small prayers. Our God is so amazing.
I am getting so excited about the African team and the privilege they will have
to see Gods work in a larger context. Also for the blessing of depending on God
and one another for all the needs. Not speaking the language gives great
awareness of humilty, sensitivity and thanksgiving!
There is so much to journal, and so little time. Yesterday 6 of us taught at
the Annie Soper School. Guess what? Kids are kids everywhere! The teachers in
the group could immediately pick out the class clowns, the behavior problems,
the clingers, the shy withdrawn ones. A great lesson I learned was in loving
these foreign kids, and being challenged to work harder to love my students in
the Fall.
Hope all is well. We miss you and wish you were all here to share the
adventure. (Lori bought machetes this morning) Haven't seen Anna. I know she
is winding up her time with the Luke Clinic and it will be difficult to say
goodbye.
More as I have opportunity...
Dios te biendega (God bless you)
