Music Opportunities
Several choirs meet weekly, September through May, to provide musical opportunities for all ages to prepare for participation in worship. All enjoy Christian fellowship and share in a common ministry of offering praise to the Lord through music!
Chancel Choir
Vocal choir for adults, meets Wednesdays from 6:30-7:45 p.m. with Judy Kimmer in the sanctuary. This choir and the women of the choir offer their music many Sundays throughout the year and for special worship services such as Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve.
Chancel Bell Choir
Handbell choir for adults, meets Wednesdays from 7:45-9:00 p.m. with Barb Bowman in the Bellers' Cellar. Handbells ring for worship approximately once a month, also for special worship services such as Maundy Thursday and Christmas Eve. They, with the Deacons, present a Christmas Dessert Concert each December.
Tuxis Ringers
Chime choir for children and youth, grades 3-8, meets Wednesdays from 6:15-7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson Street. The children from First Pres combine with the children of FUMC to learn the art of ringing and help lead worship in both churches several times a year. Barb Bowman and FUMC director Mary Falkenberry team to teach the musical skills needed.
Youth Handbell Ensemble
Meets Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and is composed of high school students who love to ring bells. With Barb Bowman they prepare a handbell offering for an occasional worship service.
Mehola Choir
A team of girls, grades 6-12, who meet with Barb Bowman Wednesdays from 4:30-5:45 to analyze a selection of Christian music for choreography and to design a liturgical dance offering for worship. They dance five or six times a year.
Exultation Choir
A vocal choir for middle and high school students. They meet in the sanctuary with Judy Kimmer Sunday mornings from 9:40-10:00 to prepare worship sets and anthems for Sunday services.
Jubilation Choir
Vocal choir for K-6th grades, also meets Sunday mornings, 9:45-10:10 with Barb Bowman. They sing several times throughout the year, and in December they participate in a Christmas pageant.
