Hello all,

We picked up Anna at the airport in Mwanza today. This evening we cooked a true African dinner at Lori's house after Lori and Betty went to the market. Betty said it was a true primal experience because they had to move the carcasses aside in the butcher shop to choose the meat for dinner. I was only good for grinding up peanuts. And true to Afrian ways, we made the dinner in the dark because of a power outage. What fun.

Tomorrow we are going to Bumbire Island out in the Lake (Victoria) to visit our friends the Hamiltons. Their son will pick us up midday and we will drive for several hours before we take a boat out. We will spend a couple of days and then Dale Hamilton will fly us back by floatplane. This was one of my great hopes for the trip, to be able to connect with these wonderful folks. Their ministries in the Islands are quite amazing and it will be good to see in person whatw have only read about. I also think that Chris and Anna may have some good conversations about HIV-AIDS work.

We are staying in a beautiful house and the compound has the most amazing plants and flowers. There are also a family of mongoose living in the yard. I have not seen them even for trying because they are quite shy. But I am glad they are around to keep the cobras somewhat under control.

The city has grown so much since 2005. Building everywhere. And we met several businessmen working on establishing new industries in the city. So there are improvements and opportunities, but still great poverty. I will write more when I have a chance. Love to everyone. Ubarikiwe.
